Billie, the heat gun I have is a Pro-Line two setting heat gun. It can burn at 750 and 950 degrees. On the more stubborn layers of paint I use the 950 setting, but very carefully. In this bedroom there's only one layer of paint over varnish and that comes off really easily with the 750 setting. I'm staying far enough away from the windows right now to avoid cracking the glass. I'm only doing the molding around the outside. The pieces that hold the sashes in and the sashes themselves are going to get stripped this spring when I can take them out of their casements and use chemical strippers on them. I'll also reglaze the panes then and replace the weights.
Good luck with your stripping projects! I'll be sure and check out your progress!
Thanks for reading!

Jan, I will paint the heads of the screws before I install them. I'll get nice and messy doing it too because I don't want to paint the threads! I need to strip the wood around the vent in the front bedroom then the register over that one will be the first to be put back on because I need to be able to close off that room from being heated constantly!

Looks good! It will be nice to have the paint off your wood moldings. The wood looks really pretty.

My very first house had those same heat registers. That hammered copper is perfect. That doesn't even look like paint. Did you have to prime or prep the bare metal? Amazing. Will you also paint the heads of the screws??? I could see even using that paint on an old tired light fixture. Great work. Jan
