Paint Colors From My Kitchen’s Past

In tearing out a cabinet to install the dishwasher, we discovered several paint colors our kitchen had once been:

Color Inspiration: strained peas and mac n' cheese.

Winter is coming!!!

I know it's still a little ways off, but I have a whole list of projects, some of which I'd like to complete before winter, some that MUST be completed.

Install gutter apron (PRIORITY ONE, ASAP)
	Finish landscaping wall
	Transplant hostas and ferns
Make kindling bundles out of the sticks in the backyard
	Borrow a ...

Excuse me while I put on my fascia.

Brandon and I finished putting up the fascia this weekend so the gutter guys could come put up the gutters this morning.

I primed the boards before we put them up.

Then we nailed them onto the ends of the rafters.

Brandon was a wiz at measuring and cutting the boards to fit. ...

Heating and air conditioning the attic

We had central air installed at the end of last month and a couple weeks ago we had a duct run up to the attic so we can use that room comfortably year round.

Now I need to look into options for improving the insulation of the attic.

Serious lock on a silly gate

Here's the back gate in my back yard. It's in the middle of an incomplete fence which is not going to keep anyone out of anything. But it is heavily fortified against anyone who'd try to wrestle it open through the trees that have grown up through it. I guess ...

Crusty Old Pain in the Drain

Our new bathroom floor is in! But before I show you pictures of that, let me tell you about the drain on our clawfoot tub.

We suspect the plumbing on it was original. Whether it was or not, it was old enough to be nothing but a pain in the drain.

First ...

Flooring Finished! (Nearly.)

Our kitchen floor is finished! Doesn't it look great?

The contractor didn't bring enough tile to completely finish the bathroom, but he did the areas under the tub and toilet. The rest will go in on Monday.

Things are finally coming back together.

Flooring Day Two: Installation

These are pictures from the day I wrote the two "S.N.A.F.U." posts about. Once Brandon got the kinks worked out with the flooring contractor they got to work.

(These pictures aren't of the same quality as my usual pictures because Brandon took them with his phone's camera, but I think ...

Flooring installation: Day one: Prep work

Here are some photos of what we -- actually, Brandon -- did to prep the bathroom to have tile put down:

First Brandon turned off the main water line and unhooked the faucet from the tub.

Then he put the faucet back together on the pipes so we could turn the main back ...

Update on my S.N.A.F.U. morning

First of all, I'd like to thank the members of the Des Moines Rehabbers Club who kindly offered me advice this morning. I sent a rather panicked email to the mailing list this morning and got some really excellent responses. It helps so much to have someone to turn to in a ...
