That's a good question, Sasha. That reminds me I should do better at defining the pieces of the window as I'm working on them.

Here's a simple diagram of a window, identifying all its parts:

<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.diylife.com/media/2010/10/parts-of-a-window.jpg" alt="Window Parts" />

Is the Des Moines Rehabbers Club still in existence? If so I would like to participate in any way I can. The house showcased in the blog looks very interesting and unique. My home was also built in the 1880s and was in serious need of an upgrade. Instead of selling it and buying a new home I decided that renovation was the way to go. I also live in Des Moines, IA.
I've been enjoying your blog. I started a very similar rehab when I was 21; my grandmother's house that I inherited. Nothing had been done to the house since it was built in 1907, there was soooo much to do and it was tough to keep focused and enthusiastic. Now I'm 50, and I'd say, try to enjoy what you've done, that will help to get you excited about the next phases. It's amazing to have your own home, and you have a good one. You're doing great stuff, we're all rooting for you. You're lucky in some ways, it's a lot of cosmetic stuff, so while tedious you have something great to show when you're done.

It may be 4 years after this was published but THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! I just moved in to a house built in the 50's and with all the heaters (blasting), it's only 53 degrees in here! The landlord came in the other day to "winterize" but not enough! He concentrated on the drafty doors, thank you. One door is still a challenge due to the sagging floors but since I now know why the condensation is RAINING on the inside of my windows, I'm out to get plastic and several cans of Great Stuff!!!!!!
This account of your renovation along with the pictures was so wonderful, and so entertaining!

I've been getting that lately too. Unfortunately the only thing I find that works is time off from anything house related. What helps is if you finish off something you've been working on a while too. That way you can bask in the accomplishment. Usually reading some other house blog's hardcore progress gets me fired up to get back in the game..
